This was an engagement session I was seriously looking forward to for several weeks. The reason why? Rachel and Taylor invited us to their home city Atlanta!! Well, you might wonder now what’s so special about Atlanta? Let me explain…
Living in Charleston, most of my backgrounds are plantations, the beach or historic downtown homes. And don’t get me wrong here! Many photographers love shooting in Charleston and so do I. But it’s really special to me to get out of our current home town and photograph in a completely new environment every once in a while. You always want what you don’t have, right?
Rachel and Taylor share a deep love for Charleston and will get married at Merchants Hall next year. Therefore, we thought another environment for their engagement pictures would actually be really nice. And since they live in Atlanta, they already had great recommendations for the most picturesque places in and around the city. I definitely wanted the city vibe, mixed with some lifestyle shots and a little bit of greenery at the end.
Since Martin and I love exploring new cities, we used this as an opportunity to make it a weekend trip. With Rachel’s recommendations, combined with 10 miles of exploratory walking on Saturday we created a master plan and met with the two on Sunday morning.
I always love meeting with my couples the first time. After texting back and forth for a couple of weeks it almost feels like going on a first date. And let me tell you this was a good one! As soon as Rachel left the car, she greeted me with a huge smile, hugged me and we immediately started chitchatting about the world. No need to warm up!! Both looked stunning and even better as a couple. I don’t know if you know this but I really like taking my time at engagement sessions to get to know my couples better. It’s not a one hour and done kind of thing. Root Baking Co. was one of our locations. A super cute bakery inside Ponce City market and since we were already there taking pictures, we decided to take a break and actually enjoy our coffee.
The most favorite fact I learned about Rachel and Taylor that day is that they have been a couple for more than ten years and are still truly in love. Those are real couple goals y’all. Both are so excited about their big day and honestly, I am already counting the weeks until their wedding!!
